MOED Derivatives 7/14/21

Today, it was found that the beaker containing the ortho variant of MOED (ortho-MOED) yielded some crystals. The image below shows an interesting property of this derivative. It seems to crystalize red strands, rather than as a powder. Of course, this may not be ortho-MOED. In order to know for sure, an NMR would have to be taken in the near future.

The solvochromatic property of this product was tested on the crystals that were left behind on the Buchner funnel. Below is an image of two different solvents.

The beaker on the left has ethanol as the solvent, while the filter flask on the right has water. An image was not taken when other solvents were tested, but mixing acetone and ortho-MOED yielded a dark pink solution. However, no color change was observed in benzene, and toluene.
